Remaining quiet and stepping back from her as she prepared to shoot, Adam once again used his instructor's eye to evaluate her stance and body language as she fired the weapon. When shifted to the right-hand target, he spotted a few issues and waited for her to complete her task before stepping back up to her. "Alright," Collier smiled encouragingly. "The first two shots were good, but when you moved your body to the right, you lost some concentration. You pivoted your hips well ... most people don't. Where you went wrong was consistency. You jerked the trigger as opposed to a smooth pull ... let me show you."1137
Picking the other pistol back up, Adam sidled up to Farrah and displayed the weapon to her. Taking up the same shooting position she had used, he extended his arms out and looked down the sights, saying and completing each action as he said them, "After you remove your index finger from the frame of the weapon, you should place the fleshy part of the last section before the bend onto the trigger. The trigger pull should be smooth and crisp, applying even pressure on the trigger consistently until the weapon fires." The Army officer demonstrated, the trigger clearly going back at an even pace until a round exploded and went down-range. "Note I have the trigger depressed still. Don't just let go of the trigger; that contributes to 'snapping' it as opposed to a consistent pull. Most pistols have a 'reset'. Ease up on the trigger until you feel a slight 'click' under your finger. You can hear it as well ... hear that? Stop letting off at that point, and apply pressure evenly again ... " Another round goes off, and he says, "Using the reset will require the trigger to travel less distance, allowing for a quicker and more consistent follow-up shot. When you want to stop firing, simply ease pressure off of the trigger." Adam did so, and placed his finger alongside the frame once more.
Utilizing his left hand, Adam's thumb hit a lever sticking out of his weapon down, and as he eased it back up, the hammer of the weapon returned to a safe position. "That's how the decocker works, by the way. Your weapon has one also. Go ahead and use it, then set the weapon down on the bench in front of you." After she complied, he set his down and he turned to her. "Practice makes perfect. And yes, I believe there is a perfect when it comes to shooting. I also think no one is ever perfect, but they can keep trying until they think they're getting close." Pausing, he said, "Let's take a break."
Moving over to a mini-fridge near a couple of seats, Adam grinned at her once more, eyes shining at her. "You're doing fantastic. I wish all I helped were as cooperative." Gesturing to the refrigerator, he said, "Help yourself ... let's save the booze until after the shooting is over, though. I don't want to end up on Youtube ... " Smirking, he leans against the bench and looks out to the trees as she gets her refreshment.
