Village
The Army Cadet Major wandered through the village, trying to find someone to make contact with. Over to his left, a group of children were playing with some kind of fashioned ball, while a lone child sat off to the side. The boy was clearly wanting to play with the others, but was hesitating to do so, probably from shyness. Walking over to the boy slowly, Adam crouched down and smiled, waving at the boy. The kid's small hand came up to hide half his face, a hesitant expression on his face and doubt shown in his big brown eyes. Collier turned to the other boys, pointing at them and then the lone child, after making a gesture with his hands to symbolize a ball and danced around a little. A giggle came from the little boy, and Adam smiled. To make his point again, Adam pointed to the boys, to which the smiling child shook his head. Walking over to the group of boys, they stopped playing when he came over and quieted. With hand signs, Sly pointed to the other kid, who was now chewing on his right index finger nervously. Looking back to the other boys, Adam saw one of them wave the kid over, saying, "Ti Bata ... ti bata!"
As the shy kid shuffled over slowly, Adam flashed an encouraging smile at the kid ... and out came the giggle again, this time closer to a laugh. Taking the ball, the cadet went to throw it to the new kid and heard yelling from the other kids. Turning, the smallest of them said, "Bata MESHA, up bata fesha ... " At the same moment, the kid speaking gestured with his feet in a kicking motion. "Err ... fesha .. mesha?" Collier inquired, pointing to his leg. One of the other kids shook his head and pointed at his own leg, proclaiming, "Pe! Mesha ... " Pointing to his own leg, Collier replied, "Mesha?" The kids got excited and began shouting and nodding, to which the cadet grinned. I'm communicating with them! he thought to himself. Sitting down on a stone bench, the kids gathered around him as Collier motioned them in to him.

Now pointing at his chest, Collier said, "Adam." The tall boy replied, "Pe ... chesa." To indicate he was talking about himself as a whole, Adam put his palms inwards in front of his chest and waved up and down his body, before pointing at himself and saying, "Adam ... my name ... Adam." Confused for a moment, the boys were still until the small one pointed at himself and said, "Retanor." The tall boy followed suit with the pointing and continued, "Jerisol." Now came the shy boy, saying, "Telor," followed by the fourth and final boy saing, "Yenas." Grinning, Adam felt he was getting somewhere already. Picking up the ball, he held it high and said, "Ball." Shouting over each other, the consensus from the boys was "Bata!"
