Ezra Holden Gray was born to Major Ryan Gray, and Hannah, in Albuquerque, NM. He was a late addition to his family, joking that he was an accident often. His mother was nearing 40 when she gave birth, his father a few years older than her. For all the surprise, they raised him with love and support. While in 2nd grade, he was tested and accepted into the local elementary school's gifted program, and when he was going into sixth grade, his father received a much deserved promotion, To celebrate the increased funds, Ezra was enrolled in Sandia Prep, where he received a top-notch private education.
In 6th grade, his parents also got their first computer. It was nothing special to the current standard, but to Ezra it was the coolest. Given his growing interest - his parents gave him strict stipulations on using it. His homework had to be done, and he had to stick with his sports and clubs. It wasn't much of a crutch, though - it simply encouraged him to exceed expectations quickly. He started early with sports, playing Soccer in the early months, usually mid-field, sometimes defense. He was quick, and strong for his age, so he did well, consistently. In the spring, he played golf - but never really got good at it until high-school.
Outside of his fierce, competitive world of sports, he was a shameless member of the chess team in middle school, winning a couple of trophies at competitions. In High School, he became the president of his school's chapter of FBLA his sophomore year - a post which he held until he graduated. There, he won several awards and local, state, and even national level. He was also a card-carrying member of the National Honor Society, and on the yearbook staff.
When his parents got a new computer, he inherited the old one - and it became his baby. He kept it, upgraded it when he got money, and loved it. He began experimenting with Linux Operating systems in high-school, delving into programming and software design. By the time he graduated, he had a fully functioning hybrid-distribution and kernel of his own making.
In his spare time, he often offered his services to family and friends in fixing their computers. Most of his free-time however, went to his girlfriend, Ashley, whom he'd been with since his freshman year. She went to public school, but they had met at a coffee shop, and been nearly inseparable since. she was into the computer scene also, and was athletic - it was odd to Ezra to find someone so similar.
Ezra had a great relationship with his parents, they were honest, and open, and cool. They would allow Ashley to spend the night, provided they were responsible. They often willingly hosted get-togethers for his friends, and rarely had to be strict. Ezra was pretty much being molded for the Air Force Academy since he began at Private School - and he responded with enthusiasm. However, a rebellious streak found him applying to the US Military Academy instead. This didn't tick his parents off too terribly, but his father, he thought, was disappointed.
Throughout high-school, however, his relationship grew with his father - they regularly went up to Colorado, in the mountains, going hunting, Ezra's dad taught him how to track, forage, and find his way. By his 18th birthday, he could make a twelve-hundred yard shot with his 7mm Ultra-Magnum across a valley, and drop an elk dead. His father took him to the range regularly, and he became quite good at shooting the heirloom Colt 1911.
With his recommendations secured, he was accepted into the Academy, and started almost immediately. It didn't take long, and Ashley broke up with him - it hurt, but didn't crush him, they had been growing apart - with her staying in New Mexico for college, he knew the split was coming. After Meer weeks at the academy, he was pulled aside - and questioned. He had been selected to transfer to a joint-academy for the upper-crust. He elected to do so, and began his career at the Stargate Academy. There, he quickly rose through the cadet ranks, and proved his considerable skill time and time again. His physical prowess and intellectual edge - coupled with his extensive leadership skills did nothing but help him. Never being one to back down from a challenge, he elected to dual-major in Geography and Mapping, and Computer Engineering. by his second year, he had taken his specialized Linux Operating System, and molded it around his needs in chart plotting, mapping, and satellite image overlays. His professors had taken to calling him Tux, after the Linux mascot.

Ezra is a unique individual, according to himself. He's a bit geeky, but athletic. Given his experience playing sports, he's a spectacular team player, able to follow commands, from coaches or captains. He outperforms that in his ability to lead, he is confident, clear minded, and outspoken. With that comes a bit of arrogance, as is to be expected - and recently he has been shown to question orders if they seem faulty to him. He can be distant, especially to the opposite sex - for the simple fact that his intelligence gets in the way with most girls. He responds favorably to intellect and shared interests - which is a bit harder than finding the needle in the hay stack. He often finds himself befriending underdog types, especially the geeky sort, knowing from experience how much it sucks to be judged simply on intellect. He would often act as the enforcer figure, and he is loyal nearly to a fault.
As for bad habits, he only has a few. He picked up smoking when he turned 18 - curiosity got the better of him. He liked it though, and kept with it, even while the military was taking a hard nosed approach to nicotine. He does well for himself by offering un-moderated wifi-access to his fellow students near his dorm. He can often locate movies or music, for a small fee as well, through a network of various File Hosting servers he's rented out across the country. He employs rather low-tech means for this, coupled with more advanced means such as SSH tunneling. He is popular among the other students, and faculty alike.
