History
Personal History: From the day Riley Soliel Peterson was born, life wasn't easy. Right at birth, the hardships started as her mother died while giving birth to little girl. Kory Joe didn't have an easy pregnancy with Riley - constantly having admissions in the hospital, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, it wasn't easy for the woman. The body finally gave out while bringing forth new life. Her father named her Riley Soliel because from the start, she was a courageous little girl, and the sunshine of his life. From that moment on, Jason Peterson did everything he could to make sure his daughter had a wonderful life. Since her father was all she had growing up, Jason was literally Riley's best friend. The pair were inseparable. There was nothing her father wouldn't do for her - attached to the hip, complete daddy's girl. Riley never knew it, but had her father wrapped around her finger. It was because he wanted his daughter completely safe that he joined the Army. It was always hard whenever deployed, but the young man would do anything to see his little girl safe.
It wasn't till Riley started really talking well that Jason noticed the slight stutter in his daughter's speech. Whenever she is excited, extremely exhausted, and anytime the girl was fearful or worried, he also took note of way she always said whatever came to mind. She never really seemed to be able to learn how to have a filter, and he wasn't the only one that noticed. Riley's early schooling years weren't easy, due to the endless bullying and teasing because of her minor speech disability. That was the reason her father started her in Martial Arts. He wanted to give Riley an outlet - place to get all the inward anger and rage she had to be feeling out. He also wanted to give her a way to defend herself. The world might view her as weak, meek, and shy, but that was only the outside they saw. He wanted to give her an edge and advantage - that if anyone took it too far, she would be able to come back. This minor speech disability didn't have to define her. Riley took to it like a bee to honey and excelled quickly. Over the years, the female turned to Martial Arts as a form of expression - where words failed, actions took over. At the same time, Riley started in speech therapy as a young age and still continues with it to this day, especially entering the various academy's - knowing with all the various different situations she would face, it would need to be maintained.
It was also in the early years of school, countless teachers noticed how gifted Riley was in remembering anything read or seen, especially when it came to languages. Testing was done on the little girl, and it was found out that she had an eidetic memory. It was a gift and curse wrapped in one. A gift because Riley discovered early on her fascination with languages. More than likely due to the fact speech was never fully a strong point. It was a curse because there countless times, especially when put on the spot, the young woman would either spill out things she wanted to hold back, due to nerves, or wouldn't be able to recall fully anything and be labeled as a fake. You would think that school came easy, but think again. The young woman still had to work hard to get the grades she did. Just because she remembered everything, didn't mean she knew everything - there was a difference, but not one that many people took into consideration.
When Jason saw how his daughter took to languages, he encouraged her to consider a life in the military. He knew how val unable linguists were in the military and knew his daughter would be amazing. Since her father was her hero, Riley gladly took him up on the idea, transferring to Franklin Military Academy in Richmond, Virginia. This was the first time Riley was ever away from her family. The young woman was pushed and stretched, but it grew her for the better. Military school was harder than anything she had ever experienced, but Riley came through with flying colors. While the young woman was in her senior year, Jason was approached by the SGC and joined gladly. It was hard to lie to his daughter about the 'deployments', but it was a secret that had to be kept. Knowing this was the life she wanted, Riley applied for the United Stated Military Academy, was accepted and swore an oath to protect and serve her country at all costs.
It was during the middle of her 4th class year that Jason Peterson died on an off-world mission with the SGC. The female wasn't told any of the truth other than he was killed in action. It was then Riley totally gave her body and soul over to the Army. She wanted to follow in her father's footsteps - be the soldier and protector he was for her. That was also the reason Riley withdrew from people even more. Her best friend was gone, taken from her. People already weren't her strong point, so why even bother now. Riley dove head first into studies, not really having any time for friendships outside of teams. She was a team player, and would do anything for any cadet on her team, but personal friendships outside the team building? Forget it.
Little did Riley know that while her father was in the SGC, he gloated about his little girl and her amazing linguist ability - how he wanted her to some day meet Daniel Jackson and learn from him, knowing she would be in awe of what the brilliant doctor discovered over the years. When Jason died, the SGC kept an eye on the cadet, watching her progress and towards the end of the 3rd class year, approached the brunette about the SGC and the Stargate Academy. It was there she learned about the truth of her father's death and his wishes. Riley didn't hesitate to think it over and quickly accepted.
Riley now is started as a new cadet to the academy in her second class year. She is nervous but excited. She is even more excited to learn about this Dr. Jackson and his knowledge of languages. She can't wait to see what is out there beyond this world. It's another challenge she is willing to face knowing her father and mother are there in spirit, watching over and cheering her on.

Personality:Riley is a young woman that is hard to read. She keeps quiet and to herself for the most part - really is only known to talk in missions. She has really been like that since birth. When you do get her talking, she tends to word vomit/stutter- especially when nerves get the better of her, extremely tired or excited, or various emotions relating to the opposite sex. It's not that she's shy - people just really aren't her thing. After being picked on a lot in elementary school for her word vomiting ways, and the slight stutter she had, the young woman keeps to herself. There was only really one person she was able to be herself around and calm, her father and best friend who was taken from her. While many think this young woman is weak and meek and doesn't deserve to be called a soldier, they are completely wrong. Off the field and training, she keeps to herself, but in missions, she is able to shout commands like none other - due to continuing work in speech therapy. She is a complete team player and will stop it nothing to protect someone on her team. She lives by the motto, no one gets left behind. If you think she is weak, just watch the way this woman fights. She is anything but your typical book nerd. She can stand her ground and take many people down. She doesn't put up with bullies and does have a temper and can fight when it comes to seeing someone being treated wrongfully. Riley just has a wall of protection around her. The countless bullying in school wore on the heart, leaving her hesitant to get to know anyone outside of missions and training. She expresses herself in actions and covers herself in the beauty of other languages. She is a complex girl with one simple goal - trying to find a way to truly be herself in this messed up world.
