ORP: Our Ungodly Hour

Ayden and Alavair's Home

He allowed her to unbutton his shirt without argument, the touch of her hands against his chest overwhelming his senses. Her words hit him suddenly, harder than he had expected. A new assignment? Already he wasn't liking the direction that this was going. It was part of the reason that he had gone civilian to begin with. If they were both enlisted it raised the slim possibility that they could be assigned apart from each other. While he hadn't told her that this was his primary reasoning, it made sense to him. Anywhere that she got assigned, he could go. He maintained top secret clearance, and his skill set allowed him avenues unavailable to most other civvies. This was important though, as neither of them had discussed potential reassignment.



As soon as she mentioned her heart not being in leading a team, he knew where this was going. She was a pilot at heart, and he knew she didn't feel right with both feet on the ground. She was one of the best he had ever seen in the air...far better than she was on the ground, which was saying something. As soon as he heard Johnathon's name, his heart sank. He had never cared for the man much, even though he knew him to be a capable officer. There was just something about his demeanor that rubbed Alavair the wrong way. The fact that Ayden would be working with him so closely now, and that she hadn't discussed that fact with him was a bit upsetting. Neither of them were perfect at the whole discussing things before acting bit yet, and this was one of those occasions.



He sat in silence, trying to figure out an appropriate way to respond. On one hand, it wasn't going to be much of a change. Odyssey was currently tasked as the flagship in this galaxy, and therefore she wouldn't be gone anymore than she already was in her current post. The possibility of Odyssey being assigned elsewhere did exist though, and he wondered what she would do if it came to that point. His eyes gave away some of his frustration, and he was thankful she was not looking into them as she normally did. ”Ah.. I wondered when Johnathon would make another appearance. Funny, as he contacted me about being the security chief on the Illiad, and I already said yes...”



He went silent, allowing his words to sink in. They weren't even remotely true, but his point would get across. They needed to talk to each other about such major decisions, even if it didn't seem like it would affect the other. That was part of what they had signed up for when they had taken those vows. ”Now obviously, you know I'm lying. I'd never work for the wanker, but you get my point, eh love?”
