History
Personal History: Lena was born in Milton Ontario Canada to a wonderful mother. Her mother was a huge sci-fi and fantasy nerd, hence naming her child with such a fantastical name as Lenaria Cerdyn. Her mother’s family had been from England but had moved to Canada near the end of World War II, with some Irish roots giving way to Lena’s naturally ginger nature. Her mother met a man when she was just a baby and married him, he in turn adopted Lena and she took on the name Marx. The man she came to know as her father was from Germany. They lived in Kitchener, ON and even welcomed a new member of the family when Lena was 4 when her sister was born.
The term ‘blood is thicker than water’ became a well known feeling growing up, as her younger sister was favoured with her father as Samantha was his ‘real’ daughter, which created tensions between the siblings growing up, although it was all done subconsciously. Lena was always the quiet one anyway, she enjoyed school and reading and when computers entered her life, however primitive they were at the time, she found ways to occupy her time and learned how things worked. Her love for technology started when she got an Atari for Christmas one year.
Lena attended a Catholic School up until the Grade 6. During Grade 4 her parents got divorced, and by the time of Grade 6 her mom got remarried. Lena stayed with her mother as they moved to the United States, and her sister stayed with their father in Canada. They lived in the middle of nowhere South Carolina, where she was a social outcast because of her Canadianness. Lena found it really hard living in a different country than what she was used to. When High School came around, her mother decided that Lena would be Home schooled in order to get a better education that the public school system could offer. Her mother was occupied with her new husband, having 2 more children, so Lena had to learn from her textbooks herself, studying hard and excelling in maths and sciences.
During High School, her mother was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer, so Lena had to help out a lot around the house with her siblings as well as continuing with her studies. Lena graduated High School, but things were complicated at home, with her mom’s illness and her status as a non-resident in the US, she was unable to go to University or get a job. When Lena was 20 her mom passed away from her illness, leaving Lena a bit devastated. She moved back to Canada to go to University. Lena got a part-time job, but had to apply for student loans while going to University for Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Lena completed her Undergrad degree and went on to get a Masters in Applied Sciences finally graduating in 2002. Not wanted to incur more debt of the student loan fashion, Lena set off with her degrees and knowledge and worked at various companies specializing in technology, mostly staying around the Toronto area.
Family: Lena is not really close with her family, often feeling like the black sheep of the family, even more so now that she can’t really talk about what she really does at her job. After her mother died, several of the older family members on her mother’s side passed away was well, leaving Lena feeling more isolated. Her Dad got remarried and lives in Canada still and they don’t talk often. Her step-father and two younger siblings live in South Carolina still, they talk around the holidays. Her younger sister is a soccer coach at a US University. They talk occasionally but both acknowledge that they should be alone in the same room for more than 5 minutes because they are total polar opposites.
Training and Education: Has a Bachelor degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Masters Degree in Applied Sciences both from University of Toronto. Various training from the Stargate Program including some minor weapons training, though her forte is melee weapons. Lena is knowledgable in many forms of technology, she can assemble computers and disassemble them just as fast. She can cannibalized various machines to make things work.
Service Record: In 2005, Lena got offered a job in a think tank sort of job in the States, which she was contracted for a year. She was introduced to some interesting new technology. After her contract was up, she found out that she had really been working for the Stargate Program working on new technology found through the Stargate. She had been there as a pair of unbiased eyes as she did not know the origins of the technology. She was offered a station on Atlantis.
Lena jumped at the chance to learn more about new technologies. She was stationed on Atlantis for 2 years before returning back to Earth, after Colonel Carter was recalled to Earth. She has been working at Stargate Command and various things related to it ever since. She had been working on figuring out the Asgard technology after their mass suicide and helping with technology installments on Earth’s spaceships.
Skills: Lena is skilled with the knowledge of computers, various technologies. She has a basic rudimentary knowledge of the ancient’s language. Lena is an expert in both hardware and software aspects of computers.
Personality: Lena is a rather introverted person. She enjoys her time to herself, surrounded by her gadgets or books, and finds dealing with people very taxing at times. She has built an emotional wall around herself over the year, burying all the parts and events in her life that has caused her pain. When she does feel comfortable around certain people, after getting to know them and is able to judge how another person is going to react to things, Lena can be quite a funny person and good to get along with. She’s just very guarded. Lena often deals with spells of depression, or as she likes to call them her ‘down periods’ where she feels like sleeping for days and no motivation for anything. Since being introduced to life beyond Earth and its dangers, Lena has developed a minor case of anxiety, prone to panic attacks for no apparent reason everyone once in a blue moon.
Lena is quite the nerdy person, she enjoys sci-fi and fantasy as her mother did. She also has an affinity for rock and metal music. She absolutely hate country music and rap/r&b. She is also a huge Star Wars fan. She often finds it hard to connect with people, which makes her feel like an outcast. But she’s always looking for people to surround herself with that understands her and how she operates. She wanted to be a happy and whole person, but knows that she has a lot of inner demons to work though. People who have gotten to know Lena express that she can be funny sometimes and has a good heart. Lena can also be sarcastic at times.

IT Services
Lena’s fingers where flying across the keyboard, she was typing out various emails with her resume attached. She knew it was bad form to be job searching while at work. Lena was currently working in the IT department of a computer company, and it was starting to get on her nerves. Attached to her head was a headset that was in the middle of a call with what sounded like an old lady who was really new with computers. The lady was dragging on about how her son got her this computer for Christmas and how they didn’t have this sort of technology back in her day.
“I’ve pushed the button on the computer, and I hear it comes on, but I can’t see anything on the computer screen.” The lady droned on.
”Is your monitor connected to your CPU?” Lena asked as she pressed ‘send’ on several emails. ”You have to make sure there is a cord connecting the monitor to a power source, and also a cord connecting the monitor to the computer itself.”
“Hang on, let me check.” The lady said. Lena tried her best to reserve her eye rolls for the really stupid customers. Lena noticed that she got a new email, already. It was from a company that was advertising for a Think Tank opportunity. Lena applied for it, even though it was in the US and they would probably get people who were American over her Canadian status to work for them. But she had a Masters degree for crying out loud, she needed something better than working in the IT department. Being a woman in the computer and technology business was extremely hard for job postings. Her eyes quickly scrolled across all the words speed reading through. A jabbering in her eye distracted her, the lady still on the line, confirming that the connections were proper. ”Did you turn on the monitor, pushed the button below the screen?” she instructed absently as she was trying to figure out what she was reading. A cheer of excitement came though her ear, the old lady just forgot to turn on the monitor. ”Thank you for calling IT services, have a nice day.” Lena hung up the phone.
Lena immediately took off her headset and picked up the receiver of the phone and pushed a line open and dialed the number in her email. They wanted to meet her for an interview. Lena smiled as the phone ringed.
