History
Personal History: Born on August 10, 1972 in the resort town of Gelendzhik, near the Black Sea. Despite his large family and low socio-economical background, Aleksandr did enjoy his childhood, and attended a local high school where he excelled at maths, physics and practical subjects such as metal work and construction. Father Yakov is a smelter, mother Larisa is a waitress at a local resort. Two younger brothers (Yuri and Victor) and a younger half-sister Natalia, who he is yet to meet.
Knowing there was little future ahead of him at home, Aleksandr enlisted in what was then the Soviet Air Force. He'd always been good with his hands and was quite mechanically minded, though he didn't want to burden his family with the costs of attending university. Upon graduation from basic training he was assigned to the 6th Air Army, and carried out technical training in aircraft engineering and maintenance. His first posting was at Kilp-Yavr with the 9th Fighter Aviation Regiment, working on the Su-27 air superiority fighter. During this time he was promoted to Gefreiter (E-3), and reassigned to the 159th Fighter Aviation Regiment at Besovets Airport, continuing his work on the Su-27.
In 1990, Aleksandr was promoted to Junior Sergeant, and moved to the 120th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment at Domna, part of the 14th Air Army. Here he was introduced to the MiG-29 multi-role fighter, and served as a maintenance detachment crew chief. In 1991 the Iron Curtain fell, and the Soviet Air Force became the Russian Federation Air Force (VVS). By 1992 Alek had again been promoted to Sergeant, and 12 months later he was working on MiG-31's at Sokolovka with the 530th Interceptor Aviation Regiment. He served six years with the 530th, before return to work with the Su-25 at Galenki with the 11th Air Army's 18th Assault Air Regiment.
Come 2000, Aleksandr was promoted to the rank of Senior Sergeant, and upon finishing his tenure with the 18th Air Regiment he was introduced to the Russian involvement with the Stargate program. His lack of combat experience stopped him from serving on the short-lived Russian SG team, though he was a key part of Russian technical involvement in Stargate program. In 2004 he was commissioned as a Russian Warrant Officer - Praporshchik - in recognition of his highly developed technical skills and experience. He served aboard the Earth battle cruiser Korolev, given to the Russians by the US, and was one of the lucky few to escape with his life following the ships destruction at the hands of the Ori. He later missed out on initial Russia deployment of the Icarus that was captured by Ba'al en route to Delian expedition base due to delays with training aboard the Aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.
In December 2006, Alek found himself aboard the USS Icarus as the deputy chief engineer, and the only Russian crew member to serve with Task Force Ida during its second tour of duty. He was with TF Ida during the resurgent Nidhogg invasion of the Ida Galaxy, with his technical knowledge coming in very handy when it came to dealing with the bugs. Along with other expedition members - particularly Abi Ely - he was able to create an interface to allow human and Nidhogg data systems to be interfaced.
It was during this time he received the nickname of 'The Russian Ninja' from none other than Abi, whom he grew somewhat close with. In June 2007 he was a part of the crew that was captured by the Nighodd and held for five months before being freed by SD-5. With the Asgard now gone and the Nidhogg close to conquering the whole galaxy, Alek and the rest of TF Ida were pulled out and reassigned to the Delian Expedition.
Appointed as a senior engineer of the Aeneid, Alek followed to ship as it was reassigned to Battlecruiser Strike Group One and was based at the Delta Site for approximately twelve months. When the Delian expedition was stood down in 2008 he was a transferred back to Earth. With his experience he was reintegrated back into the Russian Stargate program, and split his work time between Russian, the SGC and other IOA countries. During this time the Russian air force underwent a series of reforms and the rank of Praporshchik was abolished, after which Alek was reassigned as a Starshina.

Skills: It is Alek's aptitude for engineering and mechanics that has landed him a position within Homeworld Command. His brain works in a very systematic way, allowing him to take a complex problem and break it down into it's smaller components, seeing the ways in which they interact with one another in order to see what is wrong and how it needs to be fixed. He is well versed in the working on Earth-built Stargate and space flight technology, with his analytic mind proving itself capable of tackling the issues possessed by alien devices.
Kamarov is rarely seen without his engineering equipment. A variety of tools and test devices are often observed sticking out of his overfilled pockets, most of which have seen better days. A battered and dusty laptop is usually in his possession, and while he prefers mechanical to computerised problems, he is able to use to device to conduct diagnostic scans on damaged machinery and interact with alien systems. While he is not a front line trained soldier Alek is known to carry an the AK-102 when needed, a Russian built carbine rifle chambered with the 5.56 NATO round
.
Personality: Kamarov considers himself to be a fish out of water. When he first joined TF Ida he was the only Russian among a crew of Westerns, with which whom his broken English made communication difficult. As such he is often seen as quiet and withdrawn, a man of few words often grumbling under his breath in his native tongue. He takes some time to warm to new people - especially capitalists - though once someone makes it past his tough exterior, Alek quickly proves himself to be a loyal friend.
Stress is not something the engineer handles well. His approach to technology to to first try and fix it, then try again, try a third time, then find the largest and heaviest wrench he can and beat said technology into submission. His frustration often boils over into an abusive bilingual rant, directed at the cause of his anger, interspersing his efforts to fix whatever is broken. This approach more often than not leads to the problem only being made worst, but old habits do die hard.
Considering himself to be a 'do-er', Alek is happiest when up to his elbows in alien technology, never able to sit back and shuffle paperwork while other get all the fun. While a man of action he prefers to use technology over weapons, owing in part to his lack of combat training and experience. Over-aggression by his superiors and co-workers is something he doesn't handle particularly well.
As an engineer, Kamarov is adept as problem solving and applying logic to any obstacles that confront him. Maybe a like OCD in nature, he likes to see things in order and sequence, allowing him to grasp what is wrong and what needs to be done to correct a dilemma. This need to understand both the big and little picture often causes him to bit off more than he can chew, which in turns leads back to him taking out his frustration on inanimate objects.

There had still been no response from those on board the strange alien vessel, which was a little disconcerting for the Russian engineer. He'd ran a number of scans on the ship in an effort to determine why communications might be down and detected artificial interference operating on very similar wavelengths to their radio frequencies. Whoever - or whatever - was controlling the ship didn't want word getting in or out, and Alek couldn't imagine a situation where that could be a good sign.
The call he'd made to SD-1 down on the planet's surface was soon returned by Lieutenant Garret, informing him that elements of the team had been abducted by an alien shuttle they suspected to be connected with the ship upon which SD-2 and the base personnel found themselves. With ease Kamarov was able to redirect the cruiser sensors back down to the planet, quickly locking onto the strange shuttle that was rising toward orbit.
A quick scan of the vessel revealed a number of life signs on board. Half a dozen of them he was able to determine were SD-1 by matching them against the Asgard locator beacons embedded under the skin of their shoulders. Those tiny pieces of alien tech had saved the engineer's life on more than one occasion. The real concern was the other life signs he was detecting on board the shuttle - where they friendly or enemy?
Kamarov took a moment to look at the situation from another angle - "what would Abi do?" She'd been stationed at SGC for some time now, having served on Task Force Ida where the two had first met. As an expert with computers, codes and languages she'd worked well with Alek, who had a more hands-on approach to fixing problems. Picking up the ideas of codes and languages, Kamarov did a wide spectrum scan and located a stream of information being exchanged between the shuttle and the larger vessel.
Isolating this signal, he was able to incept it and play it back on his monitor. From the looks of it he was seeing a live broadcast from the visual sensors of the robots, showing a number of alien children - the local Giganite offspring? - locked up in cages. Doing a quick head check he was able to confirm that these creatures accounted for the life signs he'd previously detected.
"SD-1, stand by for extraction," he replied over the radio in heavily accented English. Bringing the Asgard transporter arrays online he locked onto SD-1's signals, beaming the team onto the bridge of the USS Aeneid, before locking onto the Giganite younglings and beaming them into the infirmary for processing.
A moment later his attention was back on the large ship, which was reasons unknown had launched all its escape pods. A quick scan revealed that they were void of life, which aroused the engineer’s suspicion. After a quick conference with Colonel Elwood it was decided that shuttles should be dispatched the investigate, which upon arriving on station, cut their way through the hull and began extracting SD-2 and the base team.
