Shannon checked him over again. Blood was dripping softly down the bridge of his nose. Definitely will need to attend to that. He began to stir but look basically dazed. She could tell he probably hit the desk pretty abruptly, so moving him was not an option until she could try and evaluate any concussion. Was she a medical doctor? Of course not, but first aid and life experiences as well as the internet can help inform anyone of certain situations. And with her recent events, the young cadet was unfortunately getting more experience with health issues not worthy of traveling through a second time.
The site of blood immediate deterred any angry thought or blame to Beck. She wasn’t really mad at him to begin with. His punctuality was something she was getting used to even if it was the opposite to her usual ‘on-time-or else’ demeanor. Maybe they complimented each other in this odd way, but it surely wasn’t a life decision not to become closer to this individual based on if he was never on time. That would be ludicrous. ”I’ll be right back” she whispered still formulating tears. Her cheek brushed up against his with a soft kiss before getting up and retrieving a first aid kit.
1917
Within a couple of minutes, she was back at his side opening the small box and explaining what happened. ”I’m sorry Beck, I shouldn’t have yelled like that knowing you might be right outside the door.” That statement made the young cadet break out in a more guilty cry while applying gauze to the cut absorbing some of the blood. Her hand was shaking considerably making the bracelet jingle softly while holding the cloth to his head. ”I was just tightening the screws to the ventilation shaft. Stupid thing keeps me up at night rattling so I figured I fix it.”
Her eyes retracted back to the bracelet and the missing charm. She closed her eyes sighed and began to softly cry again. ”I got this bracelet caught in the grate. It was given to me by my grandmother. She was my best friend, my mentor, my hero. I couldn’t just let it break. It means too much to me.” Patting his head, she felt for anything broken after his comment. ”I don’t think anything’s broken, just a nasty bruise to look forward to tomorrow. But I still want you to sit here a little longer to get your bearings.” Her hand instinctively went under his chin to show the leadership and command skills inherited from her stubborn grandmother and father. Yeah, double the pleasure of being bossy. Isn’t that just peachy. Then it retracted back to the gauze on the forehead.
”One of the charms finally fell off and went down the shaft” Shannon explained holding back as much as humanly possible. It failed. Sobbing again, she continued. ”It’s only a charm, so why am I being such a big baby about it?”
