Logan nodded towards Alavair as he removed a concussion grenade from it's hiding spot. He quickly pulled his sunglasses from the collar of his shirt, and put them on. Sunglasses in a building were not ideal, but they doubled as shooting glasses, and would keep his eyes safe after the grenade popped. He pulled a couple of foam ear plugs out of his pocket and placed them in his ears. Logan placed his back up against the wall, and turned his head back towards the team as Alavair tossed the grenade in. Logan exhaled, his thoughts quieted, his finger went from the trigger guard of his weapon to the trigger. He held it low, and close to his body. Logan noticed Lucas mirroring him in the practiced motions of a professional soldier.
The grenade popped. The overpressure made the wall vibrate behind Logan. The loud bang that would be heard through most of the building was muffled, thanks to his ear protection. A Cloud of smoke blew out of the room with the detonation. Debris pelted the hallway, and he could hear men gasping for breath - just barely. He yanked the ear plugs out, letting them hang around his neck from the blue plastic cord.
Logan spun on his heel, combat boots squeaking on the tile floor. He quickly poked his head and gun hand around the door jam, taking advantage of the disorientation the insurgents would be combating. One man was on the landing half-a-level down, his neck in an unnatural position. Likely blown back with the force of the concussion. One man was struggling to get to his feet at the top of those stairs. Logan squeezed his trigger once. A quiet 'pffft' noise escaped the weapon as a round sunk into the mans forehead. He dropped.
The double tap was standard procedure, but Logan erred on the side of conserving ammo. He had 4 extra magazines in his pant-pockets, and didn't fancy running out. A moment's observation told him more about the insurgents. Kevlar body armor, M4 rifles, sidearms. These were fairly well provisioned troops - to say the least, they weren't carrying around the bulky dinosaur AK's that were popular in the area. Logan heard a cough sound from above - he didn't hesitate to call out "Saint, contact, up" as he moved into the stairwell. He stooped down, and grabbed the M4 carbine that the dead soldier had been carrying. He threw the sling around his neck and thumbed the safety off. With the concussion grenade, they were a little past secrecy. He didn't bother searching for extra magazines, until he was positive the area was clear.
