Iraq
2004
Sergeant Nicholas Syaira stalked down the street with his squad, he could hear gun shots and yelling coming from the other side of the mud red wall. He slowly got to the end and peaked around the corner. He saw another group of soldiers pinned down by Iraqi gun fire. He looked back at his team and gave a quick secession of hand movements, then he watched as his team left to do what they were told. He peaked around again and pulled his weapon out and around. He waited while the sniper on his team lined up his crosshairs with the Iraqi Commander, then the fire. Nick didn't wait to see the kill, he switched from his weapon to his med bag smoothly and ran towards the trapped Delta force men. He called out "Friendlies on your six and three" to let them know they were coming.
He got to the group and headed straight for the sergeant as the other 262nd Airborne troops laid down some cover fire. "I'm here to help, Point out the most critically wounded" he said pointed at the US soldiers. The sergeant pointed to one of the Yelling soldiers. "Our LT. Received a bullet in the hip and shrapnel in his back" he answered. "Damn, Ok" Nick replied. He turned towards his squad mates and asked them "You guys ok giving me cover fire while I patch up these yanks.". They all nodded and disappeared into the dust storm. Nick tried to ignore the guns of the Americans firing at the Iraqis. He looked at the young LT and assessed the hip first, "Nothing too bad there, bullet bounced right back out. Solder your gun. Sorry sire but this will hurt a bit" the LT yelled as he placed the hot barrel of the weapon on the bullet's entry and exit wounds. "Now that the easy part is finished lets look at that back" he said as he noticed the firing stop. He got up and to see his squad trotting back and the Iraqis not moving. He then ducked down again and helped another soldier roll the LT on to his back. Nick grimaced at the blood pouring out of his back. "Soldier, Get a Med Evac down here ASAP!" he said waving his bloodied hands at them while trying in vain to stop the bleeding.
