Hey

I was clearing out my inbox and realised that... well, it's been a while since I got in touch and I'm really sorry about that. I miss having you talk to. Things just got kind of busy, you know? I'm pretty sure you won't have taken it personally. Well, if you have taken it personally, you'll probably just delete this email as soon as you see my name, so why I'm even typing it I don't know, but...

Well, whatever.

Just kind of wanted to let you know a couple of things that have gone on in the past six months. My dad passed away which was pretty hard to deal with. Oesophageal cancer. Right as rain one day, dead six weeks later. I have to admit, my relationship with my sisters got strained to breaking point when he died. Only me and Jules were there for him at the end and we're in a pretty nasty legal row with the others over dad's will. It's not pretty and it's been tough going. I was given a couple of months to sort myself out, although I worked through some of it, and that helped. But it was still hard.

The other bit of news is that I am seeing my commanding officer tomorrow. Apparently there's a new assignment come in for me and they will be re-deploying me. If I can, I'll get in touch when I get to wherever I'm going. Maybe it'll be somewhere near wherever you are these days. We always used to laugh that our paths would cross again eventually, right? Miracles have been known to happen.

Give me a call sometime. Mobile number is the same. I can only find it six times out of ten, but it's always worth a try.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your father *big hugs* I wish you would have contacted me. I might have been able to make it. No, make that, I would have done everything in my power to have been there for you.

How the heck are you? I've also gotten orders from my commanding officer for deployment. Wouldn't that be great if it was the same thing? Wait, that would be weird. Wait, that would be kind disturbing...but in a good way Beck. I forgot how literal you used to take things.

I'd call you if I still had your number to see if we could catch up. I got a new phone because my last one was stolen. The neighborhood isn't the safest place back home.

Thanks for not deleting my stuff. Sorry about that. Paranoia is healthy in my job. Which I can't tell you about, because part of my job is not to tell people about my job. Makes for pretty stilted conversation at dinner parties. Not that I go to dinner parties. Or even dinner half the time. Yeah, I still forget to eat, you'll be glad to know. I am grateful for potato chips and instant noodle pots. I have a small shrine to them in my workspace. Well, empty wrappers anyway. That counts as a shrine, right?

What was I saying?

Oh. Mobile. Yeah. I'll send you my mobile number as soon as I find my phone. I'd ring it, but I can't remember the number. I think it's on silent, anyway. I wrote the number down in my brand new 'things to remember' notebook. Then forgot where the notebook was.

Should be seeing my CO tomorrow. Although I was meant to see him yesterday and before that, last Tuesday. He's a busy guy. Lots of meetings and many things he calls 'pre-meetings'. What's THAT about? A meeting to discuss what you're going to discuss at the meeting. Sounds a bit crazy to me. But if I can find out anything I'm allowed to tell you, I'll let you know. Probably not by phone though.

Maybe I should buy a new one? I have vacation time anyway, which Human Resources have kind of forced me to take before the year's done and I haven't taken any again. So far, I've watched more TV than I watch in a year. I could actually feel my braincells dying by the second. Seriously, what do you do with vacation time? I had to fight to keep my laptop, they said something about 'taking a proper break, Beck'.

So how are you?

You mean so much to me Beck and I have truly missed you. I’m dealing with new faces where I’m stationed. Remember one of our last conversations before we parted ways? I had told you when I was growing up, I was teased horribly for my plump body, pimply faces, braces, and the clothes my mother dressed me in for elementary school. How many times I was beat up, harassed, or teased from lame comments from other kids. It’s making me so nervous to approach anyone around here.

I do hope you find your phone. I remember once you put it in your sock drawer in an actual sock. I forgot why, but did you check your socks? I’d buy you one but I’m so strapped for money. I had to take a few modeling shoots and a Victoria Secret layout just to make ends meet. Hopefully, with this new position and higher pay grade, I can finally have some to myself.

I have changed my status to TS (tech specialist) and hopefully I can use my new found skills without getting myself in trouble.
Oops, maybe I say too much. Don’t know who’s monitoring our every move.

So, have you met anyone while away? And I mean girlfriend wise?

I've been right through my sock drawer. There ain't nothing in there but socks. And a packet of cookies that I bought but never opened. So that was a bonus. There were also six paperclips, a roll of sellotape and my old TV remote. I am completely unsure as to how any of these things ended up there. I'm sure it seemed sensible at the time.

But no phone. I may have to buy a new one.

I remember the problems you had at school. If you remember, I always told you that it was never your looks that I found so attractive anyway. They were just a bonus as far as I was concerned. And... well, no. I've not met anybody. I've been on a couple of dates, but nothing ever went anywhere. Guess what you told me that time is true: I'm just not ready for a long-term commitment. Or a short-term one, either. Work really does eat up every second of my time. Probably for the best. At least, that's what my mother suggests. I think she's given up on her baby boy ever getting himself sorted out.

Don't despair, Shannon. You're bright and pretty and friendly. You'll make new friends, I know you will.

Oh! Speaking of injuries, I broke my arm a year ago. The weird thing is, nobody remembers how I did it. Especially not me.

No Beck, I haven’t been on any dates. To be honest, you are the only male I have ever with for long periods times when we used to talk. That’s about as close as I came to dating. Some jerk did try stalking me once while I was doing the model shoot for Victoria’s Secret. He had no idea that some women can have the ability to knock a man on his ass with their pinky. That guy stopped bothering me after that. Oh, and he might still be talking an octave higher than normal too.

I know I’ll still be nervous meeting my peers for this assignment. I can’t help it Beck. I so wish you were here. You know the real me and there isn’t anyone else I can think that has such an in depth look into my soul and who I am. I’m going to have no choice soon anyways, so I better just grin and bear it, right? Or I can run away screaming. LOL

How can someone break their arm and not have any idea how they did it? Were you placed into a trance chasing demons and one possessed you? I’m sure you’ll remember what happened to you, sooner or later.

It’s almost 2am here so I’m going to try and get some sleep. My nerves are so frazzled and I’ve so many knots in my shoulders that you can bounce a quarter off of them. Please call me once you get a new phone. We really do need to catch up face to face or voice to voice.
