The kiss they shared changed Lucas’s world. He had kissed women before but none of them caused his heart to speed up or his palms to sweat like Gracie did. Despite her inexperience, the kisses they shared were ranked high on his list – if not on the top. Perhaps it was because for the first time in his life, Lucas felt something for the girl beside him. There was a connection that they shared – one that no other woman could hold a candle to. When their lips touched everything else melted away. Their conversation from earlier and her rejection to him were the furthest things from his mind. Work, spaceships, and aliens – they were all pushed back to the furthest reaches of his mind and all that mattered was Gracie.< Tag: Gracie "Fae" Bridges >
As their lips parted Lucas’s eyes remained closed as he breathed in some air. His heart was pounding hard in his chest and he was sure that she could hear it, if not feel it with how close they were now. He shifted on the black couch, to face her better and one of his legs draped over the side as Lucas finally opened his eyes to meet her gaze. He couldn’t help but smile at her and when a lock of hair dropped into her face he lifted his hand up. Gently he brushed his index and middle finger out under the lock of hair and he tucked it behind her ear. His fingers lingered there for a moment before he moved them along her jawline.
Her skin was so soft and the contact alone was enough to set him on fire. Lucas tilted his head to the side as his gaze went from her eyes, to her lips, and finally to his fingers as he moved them along her face, tracing the outline of her jaw. This was an intimate moment that needed no words and for once Lucas felt completely comfortable in the silence. The smile never left his lips as his fingers reached her chin. He gently grabbed her by the chin, his index and middle fingers on one side and his thumb on the other and Lucas leaned forward again. Instead of pressing another kiss to her lips he kissed her jaw and gently turned her face to the side so he could press his lips to the faint scar from the crash.
He pulled back again and dropped his hand from her face. Lucas rested his hand on top of hers and he took in a deep breath as he looked at Gracie. ”I can’t believe I didn’t do that when we were in Iraq.” He said after a few moments of silence and he laughed. It was a soft but deep laugh and his shoulders shook slightly. His face and eyes lit up and he had to bite down on his lower lip to keep himself from smiling too much. Something changed in Lucas during that kiss – for the better – and he couldn’t help but think that Gracie was a woman that he didn’t want to let slip through his fingers. He wanted more from her, for them, than what they had, and that wasn't even in the strictly physical sense.
It was too soon for his mind to be filling of thoughts of the future, but something his mother always said kept repeating in his head. "When you find her, you'll know." He never was the man who thought that he'd get married, start a family, and everything that came with that but he could see that with Gracie. It wasn't as terrifying as he thought it'd be - thinking of having more with a woman than just one night. Perhaps his mother was right.
