Stargate Homeworld: Unpromised Land

As SG-16 made their big reveal about the effects of the plagues, Adam exhaled a deep breath.  His team leader's next comment, however, was very true.  They could not just stand here and do nothing while the first born of all the indigenous people were killed.  Nodding to Ayden, Jackson replied, "Got it."  Looking to Adam, the Doctor jerked his head and said, "We should go now."  Collier grimaced and followed the man at a steady jog down toward what appeared to be the center of the city.

Two minutes later, the two had been led to the 'elder' of the city, since they had no real form of government it seemed.  Jackson communicated with the man, saying slowly in the people's native tongue, "We know what is happening.  We think we can stop it.  We need a lamb.  A live one.  We must sacrifice the lamb or many of you will die."  The elder looked suspicious at first, clearly fearful of the goings-on.  Nodding hesitantly, he replied to Daniel, "The south side.  Pen is near the temple."  The linguist clapped his hands together and replied in English, "Thank you!"

Clicking his radio, Daniel shouted into it, "Colonel, south side of the city.  In a pen next to the temple, so they say.  You guys are closer!"  Turning to the group that had gathered around them, frightful expressions upon their face, Daniel said loudly in their language, "Please remain calm!  Everything will be alright ... "  As the Doctor droned on, Adam tapped his fingers against his rifle, not liking this 'helpless' feeling.  Jackson was clearly a master manipulator with his words, and Collier knew this wasn't even close to the first time Daniel had talked down a doomed civilization.  One of Adam's favorite quotes came to mind.

A diplomat is a person who can tell you to go to hell in such a way that you actually look forward to the trip.

There was a deafening beat of silence awaiting the answer that they had all been wondering. The answer that would mean some of them would die or they would live. Thus-far, Farrah had buried the primal fear of being taken out by this plague, fairly deep within her mind. But in that moment - she was scared. A slight tingle within the back of her mind, caused the woman to clench her fists slightly.

"None of us have gotten sick. It seems to only be the people on the planet."

Farrah's eyes dropped to the ground for a brief moment, feeling the relief wash over her. She glanced over at Katrina with an assuring smile, as if to say, 'See, I told you everything would be fine.'

Ayden was quick to change directions - reminding the group that they still had people to save. Even if they were immune to said plague, these people weren't and it was their job to do something about it. Jackson and Adam were quickly sent off to find 'the man in charge' while Katrina began examining the scientists. While they hadn't - in their eyes - been gone nearly as long as the SGC had thought, it was still a long time to be away from home.

Farrah was tasked with giving people water and food. When one asked for some water, she picked up her canteen, but paused before handing it over, "Hold on, love," she held up a finger, as she unscrewed the top. Giving it a light sniff, she shook her head, "Will you be alright awhile longer? Plague changes our water too. Unless you're a vampire I don't think you'd like what's in here," she frowned.

Radio chatter alerted Farrah that there was apparently a pen of sheep nearby which they needed to sacrifice.

Glancing over at Ayden for instructions, she suddenly found the lovely Katrina in front of her. Apparently something odd happened while one man in particular tried to refill his bottle - and it didn't fit the plagues.
"What do you mean 'something happened'?" Farrah asked, raising a brow, "Like he got dizzy and fell in, or the water tried to take it from him?" she frowned, glancing over at the individual in question - who was watching them speak.

"Sheppard - do I have time to question that man, or do we need to go 'sacrifice a sheep' and whatnot?" she asked honestly, unsure if she was needed for that or honestly what that entailed. It was nice that they had some idea on how to stop this thing, at least.

To say that the people of 'Aigyptos' were less than pleased with the news of their impending doom was a gross understatement.

Jackson was standing on top of a makeshift table, waving his hands at a group gathered beneath his precipice, calling out to them, "I need you all to listen and remain calm, please! We have a plan to help everyone but I need you to listen!" Adam was in the area near the table, holding his hands out-spread in front of him to keep the panicked people back.  The elder they had spoken with earlier was directly below him, and after looking around furtively at the crowd, he clamored atop the table with Daniel. Holding his hands cupped around his mouth like a megaphone, the elder boomed, "Siiiilllleeeennnnce!" The sounds from the crowd calmed to a dull roar, and he continued evenly, "You will heed this man's words. We must trust him." A light sobbing from in the crowd was apparent in the quieter area now, and the man turns to Daniel and nods.

Taking a deep breath, the Doctor begins after Sheppard's transmission, "What we are going to do is group everyone in the largest houses we can ... "  As Daniel droned on, Collier clicked his radio in response, "Let me check."  Stepping away for a brief moment to the closest building as all in the area were near identical, the Lieutenant opened the door and stepped inside to check the room on the interior.

Exiting the fourth building and satisfied they were reasonably similar, Adam keyed up his radio and spoke once more, "I think five of these buildings should do it ... might want to make it six, if we have enough lambs, that is."  From the corner of his right eye, Collier spotted the Australian shooter and the Major leading SG-16 sans the Captain to their location.  Jackson had begun coordinating with the elder to divide everyone up into the homes.  "Almost showtime," Adam said aloud to no one in particular.

Seeing Farrah interact with the scientists gave Katrina relief that she possibly felt useful. Farrah was extremely useful. If it wasn’t for her idea on that dirt road back in Colombia, the team would not be here today. She had amazing skills and working with her became more comfortable even if it was only their second mission together. Radio contact revealed the location of some sheep had been located and Walker replayed the biblical story in her mind. She had read the bible and also watched the older version of the movie with Charlton Heston, “The Ten Commandments”. Remembering Moses placing the lambs blood above the doors of those he believed could be saved from the death sentence, she prayed silently while looking over the other scientists.

Farrah went off silently, but the man’s arm she was still visible. The boils were there. But they had been in this nasty environment which could have caused them to form. But, she had to know. Eyes just glanced at the man’s arm not portraying any panic. Looking to the man in front of her, she pressed up his sleeve slightly. The man’s arm stopped her. ”Please, you know what you’re going to find. What if I infect you before the last plague? What if this idea doesn’t work? I couldn’t bare for a such a beautiful woman to be plagued like this.” Katrina smiled back to him comforting him. Her medical background and all the missions she had been on as a field medic prepared her for just about anything. Her soft voice as always given to comfort a patient, remarked back. ”Thank you for the lovely compliment. But that’s why I’m wearing the gloves. If I'm meant for this to happen, we will find a way out.  We always do.  But if you feel uncomfortable, please just let me see them.” The man nodded showing her a few of the boils.

Standing up, she walked over to Farrah. ”The boils are on three of them so far. I don’t think we need to check them all. I just wish it was from this atmosphere not a plague. Be sure to wear gloves if you continue anymore examinations, alright?” On her radio, she clicked in with her own findings. ”This is Wal…Logan. I’ve confirmed three of our scientists have boils. The sooner the better with those lambs. Ayden, if you need any help with, well, sacrificing them let me know.”
