Arlington, Virgina< Tag: Alavair >When Ayden had first saw this home, it was perfect to her. It had just enough rooms, the perfect sized fenced in yard, and an amazing view. She knew from the moment she stepped inside that her late husband would’ve loved to call this place home. It was secluded, but not too far away from civilization, and it was quiet. It was the perfect place to raise a family and Ayden had bought it to call home. Home wasn’t the same without Alavair though. She found herself doing little things around the house to make it feel like he was still there with her; fixing up the den like a mancave, picking colors for the décor that he would like, and making sure that his favorite foods were stocked in the fridge, even if she wasn’t all too fond of some of his dietary choices. The rational part of Ayden’s mind knew that Alavair was gone but she still couldn’t fully grasp it. As she grabbed the video baby monitor from the kitchen counter and walked outside to the screened-in patio her thoughts traveled to the man that she had fallen head over heels for. She glanced at the monitor as she placed it down on the small table beside her and she took in a slow breath. Her son was the spitting image of his father, with his mother’s crystal blue eyes and it pained Ayden to look at him most days, even if she did love the little boy more than life itself. When she had first moved to Virginia and after buying the home she resided in now, she went to the animal shelter and found the perfect dog for her small family. Alavair and she had spoken about getting a dog one day, once they were back on Earth, but her husband had made it quite clear that anything under fifty pounds was not a dog but simply an “overgrown rat”. The dog she had now was curled up at her feet. He was a mutt, but a beautiful boy who was full of life and protected her son, so he was a welcome addition to the family.Ayden took a sip from the warm tea she had just made herself and picked up the book on the end table, her long fingers thumbing through the pages to find the place she had bookmarked previously. She placed her mug on top of a coaster beside her and curled up on the couch, her knees being pulled to her chest as she placed her glasses on and started to read. A deep growl emerged from the pup’s throat, his ears perked and he bore his teeth, causing Ayden to glance over the top of her glasses. “Quiet Diesel.” She commanded him and he looked to her for a moment before turning his attention back to the door. He stood up, keeping his head low as he growled louder, the hairs on his back standing on end.His sudden stance alarmed Ayden and she placed her book and glasses to the side and she picked her sidearm up off the table, flipped the safety off and stood to her feet. Quietly she reached out to open the door, the dog bolting in the house first who was soon followed by Ayden. Her steps were noiseless as she kept the gun trained straight ahead and she crept deeper into the house. If there was an intruder in here, he wouldn’t last long.
