3 klicks West of Calamar, Colombia< Tag: Aleksandr Kamarov, Katrina Logan-Walker, Farrah Byrne, & Adam "Sly" Collier >The team that Colonel Sheppard had sitting in the SUV with her was surprising her every moment. She knew they were all intelligent, well-rounded people but the fact that they were still surprising her was amazing to her. She wasn’t one to compliment people easily, instead deciding to leave it for when they really deserved it but the fact that they were all working so well together already made her surge with pride. She nodded her head in Alek’s direction, acknowledging his words about the files being downloaded, and then about him hacking into the system. If anyone was capable of getting through the firewalls and other security measures the NID had up, it was him. She had the upmost faith in the enlisted man.
Katrina’s words caused Ayden to raise a brow. It was possible – but still in the Colonel’s mind, close to impossible. She had yet to meet a NID agent with some resemblance of a heart. ”We won’t rule that out just yet then. We’ll wait to see what we find when we meet up with his partner to see what he knows.” She replied and she shifted on her seat as her gaze dropped to the weapon in her hand. She checked to make sure that it was loaded and that she had a couple of extra mags on her, as well as her sidearm and a silencer if they needed it. She wanted her team to carry light, but that didn’t mean skimping on protection. Under her clothing she donned a Kevlar vest and she had hoped her teammates had done the same – you can never be too safe.
”I can’t promise I won’t get a few bumps and bruises, Major, but I can promise that you won’t have to push my internal organs back into my body.” She murmured, a hint of a smile at the edge of her voice as she looked to her best friend. There was a reason her and Kat got on so well – the woman sitting behind her was warm, welcoming, and a total mother hen, whereas Ayden was cold, calculating, and there were only two children in her life that she loved. Kat was the ying to the Colonel’s yang, the hot to her cold – and when they were together, it was a wonderful friendship indeed. They balanced each other out almost perfectly.
Byrne did raise two more valid points that could very well have led up to the agent going dark. Ayden considered both carefully, and mulled over both in her head as she started to press her thumb to each of her fingers on her right hand, an old tick that never did die as she grew older. The rhythmic motion helped her to focus on her thoughts and after a few very long moments of silence from her, the Colonel spoke up. ”Then now it’s more important than ever to find out all the information we can on the mission Agent Northhouse and Agent Doyle were part of, and why a Colombian Diplomat has also went missing. Something isn’t adding up.”
Moments before ‘we have company’ left the Lieutenant’s lips, Ayden had spotted them. There were no weapons to be spotted, but Ayden knew that they had them – more than likely concealed or the men in the beaten up Ford Bronco had weapons. She did a quick sweep of the area, her piercing blue eyes taking in every way that they could get attacked from. ”You heard the Lieutenant. Let’s not give Kat any reason to have to be patching up just yet.” Ayden replied, pulling the rip-away door molding away on her side and she tucked her weapons in there before putting in back in place. She glanced back at her team to make sure that they had complied with the orders and then looked back out the window, holding her hands up as well to show that they meant no harm. As the men approached the SUV, Ayden rolled down her window just slightly while making sure to keep her hands in view at all times. "We are part of a research expedition based in Calamar. We mean no harm." The Spanish rolled off of the Colonel's tongue perfectly as she waited for some sort of reaction from the man by her window.
